3 Things to Know When Starting a Fashion Brand
Have a fashion brand or are starting one?!
If you don’t already know, I took a hiatus into fashion a few years into my Real Estate career. I did this as a hobby, and found that there were SO MANY holes in the garment manufacturing process that to be quite honest just made me dissapointed and uninspired to continue working on my own brand.
INSTEAD - I buckled down and began working for a garment factory in Donwtown LA to learn as much as I could. Read more about my journey here.
From there, I started my own factory, and turned that into an agency, helping brands navigate the process with all the support they needed!
Here are some tips!
1: no two design journeys are the same
I’ll be honest, the road to creating a fashion line take grit and determination. But the one thing to always keep in mind is that your personal wants and needs for the brand will be totally different than someone else you know who also has a fashion line. With that being said, my online course covers literally every single tiny detail you’ll need to be aware of. So the takeaway here is, don’t compare what you’re doing to someone else, because odds are their journey is different.
2: know your terms
Terminology is really the core of education when it comes to garment manufacturing. *DID YOU KNOW fashion schools don’t teach garment manufacturing?? I know, it’s a wild thing, so the amount of independent designers that make it to launch and then scale from there is very low. WHY? Because there just isn’t enough education around the process. Know your terminology. This will keep any confusion out of the way. Simple terms like Development, manufacting, and development are all different terms, meaning completes different things. Watch my video on 3 terms you should already know.
3: be resilient
Whatever you do, don’t give up. There will be (guaranteed) things that come up unexpectedly that will test your fuse. Make sure that you have a team that’s willing to take the time to collaborate
