How I Gained Confidence and Found Success
Growing up, I was bullied in school, and those experiences carried over into my 20s. But instead of letting it hold me back, I decided to enter the workforce. While I didn't believe in university for myself, I knew that gaining first-hand experience would require extra time and energy. And so began my journey towards greater confidence. At first, it was tough. I lost friends along the way, but I knew that keeping my head down would help me build up my self-esteem. In my early to mid-20s, I adopted the "fake it til you make it" mentality - a theory that helped shift the way I saw myself and how others perceived me.
But faking confidence wasn't enough. It made me second guess myself and feel like an imposter at times. So, I had to switch up my mindset and not only fake it but also believe in myself. Anything I didn't know, I worked on learning more about. If someone asked me something I didn't know, instead of pretending to know the answer, I admitted that I was unsure but promised to follow through with finding out.
Over time, as I attended events and networked heavily, my confidence grew stronger than ever before. Now in my 30s, nothing can shake my belief in myself or deter me from being true to who I am - a bubbly and energetic person who puts in the work to be knowledgeable in their field.
Here are three tips that helped me gain confidence:
Fake it until you believe it: The "fake it til you make it" mentality can be helpful for shifting your mindset towards greater confidence. But remember to also believe in yourself and your abilities.
Overcome imposter syndrome: Imposter syndrome is a feeling of inadequacy or self-doubt that can lead to anxiety and lack of confidence. Remind yourself of your accomplishments and celebrate your successes no matter how small they may seem.
Practice self-care: Taking care of yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally can greatly improve your confidence levels. Make sure you're getting enough sleep, eating well, exercising regularly, taking time for self-reflection and relaxation while surrounding yourself with positive people who support you on your journey towards greater confidence.
Remember that gaining confidence is a journey that requires dedication and persistence. With these tips and by believing in yourself wholeheartedly - anything is possible!
